According to a recent randomized controlled trial, older adults who eat a poor-quality diet may benefit cognitively from taking daily supplements of cocoa extract.


The authors found that older adults who regularly ate a high-quality diet showed no cognitive benefit from cocoa extract.

Consuming dietary cocoa flavanols, according to Dr. Vyas, may lessen cognitive stressors and also be “modulating other neuroprotective mechanisms.”

“Our trial’s findings indicate that taking supplements containing cocoa extract did not appear to have any general cognitive benefits for older adults,” the researcher stated.
