Drug MDMA : Psychedelics is Getting Closer to FDA Approval Now
Drug MDMA, which resembles psychedelics, is getting closer to FDA approval.
In addition to having a legendary reputation in underground rave culture, DMA, the well-known psychedelic-like drug also known as “ecstasy” or “molly,” has a long history of clinical use prior to its 1980s ban.
Formally referred to as 3,4-methylenedioxy methamphetamine, scientists have been investigating whether or not it can be used to treat autism-related social anxiety and alcoholism.

However, it is still very illegal to own or sell MDMA as of right now. As the medication gets closer and closer to FDA approval, it seems like a full circle is about to happen.
A step closer to official approval is the biotech company MAPS Public Benefit Corporation (MAPS PBC), which purports to treat post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) with its MDMA-based therapy.

MAPS PBC stated in a press release that the company submitted a new drug application (NDA) to the FDA on Tuesday in order to have MDMA approved for the first-ever legal treatment of its kind in the country.

The FDA has sixty days to determine whether to accept the NDA from MAPS PBC for review and, if approved, whether to assign it a standard ten-month review period or a priority six-month review period.

prescription drugs. Since 1985, MDMA has been prohibited from being used by the general public for medical purposes outside of clinical trials due to its Schedule 1 status under the Controlled Substances Act.
“A combination of MDMA, psychotherapy (also known as talk therapy), and other supportive services to treat PTSD,” the release said of the suggested therapy.

A 2021 meta-analysis published in the Journal of Clinical Pharmacology concluded that “use of unregulated MDMA or use in the absence of a strongly controlled psychotherapeutic environment has considerable risks.”
